Closing in on 20,000kms on my 2016 R1200GS, and with my moto trip to Newfoundland looming, I booked the bike in for its 20,000km service. I must admit, I really enjoy taking my vehicles in for routine maintenance. It’s surprisingly satisfying. Even more satisfying is new tires. I just loving putting new tires on my motorbike, or my car.
On my old FZ6 I replaced the stock tires with Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interacts, which I was quite happy with. So I decided to replace my GS’s stock Anakee III tires with the new Metzeler Roadtec 01s. The Roadtecs are so much smoother than the Anakees, especially at freeway speeds, that is it a little bit hard to believe. Granted the Anakees are a 90/10 (road/gravel) tire and the Roadtecs are pure road, but what a difference.
I had the work done at Endras BMW Motorrad in Ajax, Ontario. The service tech there was great. I mentioned the small amount of oil on my left fork. Apparently the clip that holds the seal in place (I really have no idea what I am talking about here) was not installed correctly, so the service tech fixed it up and told me to keep an eye out for any further leakage, which would necessitate replacing the fork seals.
