The move to cloud and SaaS has put a spotlight on the effort required to change cloud or SaaS service providers. There's a desire to choose cloud and SaaS solutions with "easy in, easy out" in mind. That is to say, choose a solution such that it will be easy to migrate to another solution.

Focus instead on standards-based solutions. For example, in the identity space, focus on OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, JWT and JSON. Standards-based solutions will simplify, to the extant that you cansimplify, the process of migration from one cloud or SaaS service provider to another.
